Heather
Tosteson created the photographs for this anthology and would like to thank all
the people who so generously donated an image of their face, sometimes several,
to this project - with no idea what might appear in it.
We
also thank Lucas Church for his substantial and capable help in preparing this
web anthology.
Finally, creating this anthology has been a long
learning process, involving some missteps as we tried to find a form
appropriate to a constructive exploration of this important topic, and thus
moved from the idea of a print anthology to a much briefer but more vivid and
reflective web anthology. We wish we had known then what we know now and that
we had not, in our process, unfortunately disappointed some very talented
writers and engaged far more than we would wish in the dynamics of inclusion
and exclusion. We thank all the writers who submitted to this anthology, especially
those who were accepted for a print anthology and were thus disappointed by its
cancellation.
